Dave Goodman - Guitar

Dave hails from British Columbia. Canada. The youngest of seven children, he grew up in a musical household. After graduating from high school, Dave moved to Vancouver to study jazz at Vancouver College under Bruce Clausen. The next few years found him playing all over Canada as well as in the U.S. including a house gig at the 'Wave Waikiki' where he hosted sessions with David Sanborn and 'Was Not Was'.

Dave Goodman is a remarkable guitarist who is at home in both electric and acoustic idioms and has mastered styles ranging from jazz, blues and rock to country and
folk, he is also an accomplished songwriter and sings, with a deeply personal touch which transcends stylistic boundaries.

For several years he lived in San Francisco and became a fixture in the Bay Area music scene, sharing the stage with numerous local and national artists including Jeff Healey and Tommy Castro.

Always interested in the technical side of music, Dave became involved with the renowned California amplifier manufacturer Mesa Boogie in 1991. During his years with Mesa, he designed 'The Revolver', a rotating speaker system for guitar much like a “Lesley” for organ. Boogie licensed the speaker from him and put it into production in 1995. Carlos Santana bought the first two which Dave delivered to him personally - another very big honor and a high point in his musical experiences.

During this period Dave toured Europe as a member of the Ford Blues Band. With the help of Patrick Ford he began to make contacts in Europe . He secured a management and a record deal, first with Bear Family Records and later with CrossCut. Throughout this time Dave was playing electric guitar in a trio line-up featuring Canadian drummer Aaron Anderson and Hawaiian bassist Billy Mendoza as the 'Dave Goodman Band'. The CD 'Live '96' was recorded at the Breminale Festival and was released on Bear Family Records in 1996.

In 1998, ready for a change from living in California, Dave relocated to Germany. Wanting to make a musical change as well as doing some soul searching, he took a break from playing live and began playing finger style acoustic guitar and writing songs in a more personal style. His first acoustic CD, 'Roadbook Rhymes' (CrossCut Records CCD 12001) , an intimate collection of original songs in a roots, singer songwriter style, was released in 2000 on Crosscut Records formation with Swiss cult guitarist Hank Shizzoe guesting on three songs. .

His second acoustic CD, 'Rocks, Skies and Waters' (CrossCut Records CCD 12007), was released in 2004. This was another very personal collection of roots oriented original songs ranging from solo pieces, to songs with several instruments all played by Dave, to trio performances featuring German drummer Oliver Spanuth and Russian acoustic bassist Paul Pastouchov. Both CDs received very positive reviews in Europe. His most recent release “Side Of The Road” on Acoustic Music Records features harmonica ace Steve Baker on two songs and was released in November 2009.
Since the release of 'Rocks, Skies and Waters' Dave has been touring regularly in Europe, both as a soloist and in trio formation. In 2004 his talent as a guitarist brought him to the attention of the Yamaha company for whom he presents high end acoustic guitar workshops and concerts all over Europe.
Following Dave’s success on the renowned Open Strings Festival 2009, he was invited to join Peter Finger’s International Guitar Nights tour, which also featured Steve Hicks and Ryan LeBlanc.
